A Guide to
Hunting with The Celtic Bloodhounds
Joint Masters: David
James Esq. MH, Clive Jeffreys Rees LIB. MH, Jeffrey Evans
Esq. MH.
We hunt a pack of
bloodhounds onto a human runner, our huntsman will cast the
hounds on to his scent about 15 - 20 minutes after his
departure, we will then hunt him over a distance of a few
miles, until the hounds find him. We hunt "clean boot" as no
artificial scents are laid and at no time during the course
of our day is any live quarry pursued or killed.
Please abide by a
few simple rules of basic etiquette to enable everyone
concerned to enjoy their days hunting:
- Please show the
utmost respect for the farmers and landowners of the
area, whose land you are crossing. A farmer depends on
his land for his living and it is only by his generosity
that you are able to hunt. Please do not think that by
paying membership or cap that this gives you the right to
abuse privileges.
- Make sure before
you take your horse hunting that you can control him. If
he is known to kick, please be sure to display a red
ribbon on his tail and keep to the rear of the
field.
- Please treat
your Masters and Field Master with respect. No mounted
follower should pass the Field Master.
- Always thank
people for holding a gate open or traffic for waiting on
the road for you to pass. Be very careful to close gates,
if you arrive at a gate which should be closed, and the
next group of the field are not in sight, shut the gate
or later people, finding it open, may leave it
open.
- Be aware of
hounds at all times, do not disturb their concentration
when trying to pick up a scent and never be so close that
you risk galloping on to them.
- All meets start
at 12 noon, please be prompt and turned out to the best
of your ability. This means both horse and rider. Make
safety your first consideration.
The Joint Masters
welcome you and hope you enjoy your day with the Celtic
Bloodhounds and we look forward to your company often in the
future.
Thank
you.
