A thousand people turned out
to welcome the East Kent Foxhounds into Elham Square and to
offer their support. A few had come along because they
thought it might be the last opportunity but they were soon
disabused of this misconception.
Amongst the supporters were
the Rt. Hon. Michael Howard, leader of Her Majesty's
opposition and Georgina Harland, Olympic Bronze medal winner
at this year's Olympic games in Athens. Georgina, whose
competes in the Modern Triathlon, grew up with the East Kent
Hunt Pony Club and has hunted with the East Kent many
times.
As the mounted field of some
75 left the Square one of the Amateur Whippers-in called, to
rapturous applause, "See you next year!".
Some 15 anti-hunt protesters
were apparently gathered at one end of the
Square.
