Hounding Ministers

Hunting People at the Opening of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link
Around 60 hunt supporters gathered to greet Alistair Darling when he attended the opening of the High Speed Channel Rail link on Tuesday 16th September. Their purpose was to make ministers aware that hunting is a way of life everywhere in this country, including the highly populated South East.
They displayed placards reminding ministers that 59% of the public don't want a ban on hunting. They also reminded the Minister that the obsessive pursuit of a hunting ban by Labour backbenchers has nothing to do with animal welfare and everything to do with a prejudiced attack on the hunting community.

Most Kent packs were represented.

Nick Onslow, a local hunt supporter, said:
"Until the East Kent Hunt's recent open afternoon many people did not realise that hunting took place in Kent when there are, in fact, five packs of foxhounds, three of beagles and a mink hound pack that regularly meet in the county. We are sure that the MP's who are so desperate to ban hunting are not aware that hunting is an issue across the entire country."
"There is an irony in Tuesday's events and the high speed link. At the most conservative estimate a ban on hunting would be a high-speed link to the dole queue for 8000 people and to oblivion for 20,000 hounds."
