![]() Sextant Bronzes sculpted by Belinda Sillars A year after the hunt lost its hounds, in January 2001, following the tragic theft by the Animal Liberation Front, just one beagle has been recovered. Sextant was found in Bristol a few months after the theft and one person was successfully prosecuted for 'Theft with Finding' at Maidstone Crown Court in July last year. Celebrated animal sculptress Belinda offered to help the hunt by producing the limited edition head study and the first orders are now being delivered. The study, around 6" high, is available as either plain bronze (£300) or with a patinated finish (£305) showing Sextant's markings, and each one is individually numbered. Wendy Peckham, spokesperson for the Campaign for Hunting in the south east, said, "This generous offer from Belinda is not only helping the Wye Beagles Hunt, it's also commemorating the return of Sextant; a piece of history not just for Wye but for hunting generally." "The finished bronzes have been eagerly awaited and the first orders are being dispatched now, coinciding with the anniversary of the theft which was widely condemned in the sporting and national press. We still think of the missing beagles and wonder what has happened to them. We believe they have been destroyed, not given to private homes as alleged by the ALF which has steadfastly ignored our pleas to provide evidence of the hounds' well-being. Thankfully Sextant came back to us, and he, and the missing hounds, will be forever remembered with this bronze." Enquiries regarding purchase of a Sextant bronze should be made to Wendy Peckham |
